Did Ya Miss Me?

Top: Vintage Manish Arora; Shoes: Discount Universe; Fur Coat: Vintage

It has been forever since I posted on the blog, so I won't be surprised if no one ever sees this post. But just to list the chronological events of my life for my future self, there has been a lot that has happened and I am happy with the progress.

1) I got a new job 3 yrs ago that I love. I am finally finding ways to use my creativity in my actual profession instead of just using fashion and this blog as an outlet. I moved from architecture to interior design and am loving the hands on creative process. The best part is that the projects take about 6-9 months from start to finish so I get to see them built and in use in much shorter periods of times. Architecture took forever. My last building look over 4 years to be built.

2) I have gotten into gardening. I know, I know. What is happening to this world. It does not make sense anymore. I mean Trump is president you guys! Anything can happen including me loosing my shit entirely and getting into gardening. 2 years ago my idea of grocery shopping was a run to Duane Reade for some milk and Doritos. And now I am growing my own veggies in the east village on our patio. But I mean seriously people how did we allow Trump to happen to us? I can't and will never get over this shock. I think our entire country needs therapy. Phew!
Back to gardening. I love it. ohmmm..

3) I also went to Japan recently and want to move there.

4) I also tried my hand at a bunch of things and failed. But all is good. Learning experiences, all of them.

Thats all. Hoping to update the blog a bit more. Have tones of new stuff in my closet from the last 2 years. But how about them boots huh? Aren't they the shit?

Happy 2017!

Lazy Sunday: Personal Fashion

Images by Alison Wynn

Dress: Kallol Dutta; Sweater: All Saints; Scarf: Diesel; Shoes: Underground UK; Ring: Manish Arora for Amrapali Jewels; Socks: Target

Kallol Dutta is a young Indian Fashion Designer who has a mouthful to say about all things fashion. He likes breaking rules [more like not following them] and speaking his mind about things that upset him about the industry. Luckily his designs are strong enough in their statement, creativity and originality that they support all his opinions about fashion in general and you can tell where he's coming from and what he means.

When I went to Indian in February I finally got a chance to meet him in person and place a couple of orders for clothes I had been eyeing from his previous collections. This white dress is one of them. It is already a spring/ summer staple and it is utterly befitting to my fashion aesthetic.

Waiting For My Sinking Boat: Personal fashion

Images by Hrishikesh Vimadalal

Leather Dress: Topshop; Shoes: Sam Edelman; Jacket: Zara; Ring: Manish Arora for Amrapali jewels.

I am utterly blown away by this series that Hrishi shot and edited. I love every photo!

I have been trying to shoot in front of this sinking boat for over 2 years and just because it is quite a hike from Mahanttan I never made it until last weekend. It was totally worth it ofcourse. When it comes to styling I feel like there is always a tendency to do very pretty flowy dresses in abandoned locations as they form a cool contrast of pretty with the ugly or then the goth look cause it just goes with the abandoned dark theme. But I wanted to try something different and go for a slightly si-fi, indian, leather but with flowers wearing creature waiting for her sinking boat to arrive and take her to a her final destination. But don't worry, the journey to there is still light years away.

A Day in the Life of a Glamourous Indian Construction Worker: Personal Fashion

Images by Upasana Jain

Jacket: Zara; Wide Legged Pants: Fabindia; Necklace: Outhouse; Ring: Manish Arora for Amrapali jewels; Shoes: Moonspoon Salon; Sunglasses: Oakley

Everytime I go to India for a vacation I have to schedule atleast one shoot there. It is my favorite fabric to shoot against. Last time it was at Chor Bazaar which was quite an experience and this time it was at a construction site in Raey Road and the slums outside of it. It is always a huge experience to shoot in India. Everything becomes such a spectacle and mostly in a fun way. Everyone wants to participate, like my sister's driver in the first few pictures who decided to wear my sunglasses and act cheeky, the construction workers at my friend's site who were all to excited to pose and then the ladies in the slums who kept asking me to fry their fish. It was awesome. While shooting in the slums outside we [as usual] had a whole mob of people gather around just watching, which stalled the traffic behind them and eventually attracted the attention of some cops who came by to stop us from taking pictures as we were creating a commotion. Told you it's always interesting to shoot in india.

Love these pictures. Love my jewelry. And love my incredible photographer's talent and drive to not be afraid of all the shit I put her through during our shoots.

Manish Arora's Sparkly creations for Swarovski Up and Close: Vogue India

Images by Prutha Raithatha [via iPhone]

Until Photobucket figure out all their website issues, here is an interim post I did for Vogue India this week.

We have all heard about Manish Arora’s collaboration with Swarovski Elements to create some super cool accessories totally apt for a Valentine’s Day gift. They are pretty and cute heart shaped necklaces. But he also created a few fantastic pieces of clothing which were on display at the Swarovski showroom across my apartment in NYC. I went into the store to check out jewelry but ended up spending 30 mins just staring at Manish’s creations on the mannequins. There is a reason why the whole world is in awe of Manish’s work and it’s the absolute original [this word is very important to me] and over the top creativity his brains come up with as naturally as breathing [I imagine it is that easy for him in my mind..but in my mind I am also a queen of an underground world of tiny people + animals all dressed in a nothing-less-than-a-masterpiece they create themselves as their only goal in life to prove they are worthy of living in my kingdom].

I could not resist taking a few pictures of the fantastic pieces with permission of the shop people ofcourse. All of them have a lot of tiny Swarovski crystals on them which Manish uses in his collections a lot of times. In love with the Lion faces [I want them soo soo bad in my closet right now!!] and the Ganesh dress is beyond breathtaking. Apparently these pieces at Swarovski atleast, were not for sale. Yes I asked. I know, I know!! I can’t even afford the eye of the Tiger / Lion right now. But a girl can dream right?
