Jesus Christ: Personal Fashion

Images by Ben Taylor

Shoes: Underground UK; Skirt: From India; Tee: Vintage

I am declaring my tee vintage cause I bought it almost 12 years ago in India. I love how there are things in my closet I still wear after so many years. My aim is to build a wardrobe full of only pieces like that.

Also every time I wear this tee, I always have some overly religious person on the street/ bus/ subway start talking to me about Jesus and how they love him and that this is the best tee ever. Biggest mistake was to wear it on a bus ride in PA going from Pittsburgh to some small town outside of Pittsburgh and everybody on the bus was smiling at me, talking to be about how great Jesus is. This was the first time I think a brown person got so much respect from every single person in small town PA [lol...I kid! It's a joke!]. I felt really guilty about having worn it when I was not a Christian nor religious cause they were all looking at me with pride and admiration for being a young person so pious to actually wear Jesus in declaration of my love for the church. So I just indulged them by nodding a lot and occasionally saying "Amen!" in approval of whatever they were saying to me. I am not really proud of myself for doing that but what choice did I have? I couldn't tell them I was an Atheist born to a Hindu family who just thought the tee was cool. Even though I was definitely not trying to be ironic when I bought this tee a million years ago [cause I didn't even know what that meant back then] I somehow thought it was cool. I still do. I just make sure I wear it in NYC cause I am likely to be less mistaken to be pious here than other places. Now if only I can get back to the size I was 12 years ago and fit a little better in this tee, life would be perfect.

I will help anyone fashionably if they help me get into a tinny whiny bit of shape! [I say that while sipping on a beer at 1.45 am on a monday morning...lol..but this is why i think my life is so good! Cause I can do this guilt free :)]

Zeena Grew Some Broken Wings: Street Fashion

Images by Prutha Raithatha

This is part 2 of the bare back and harnesses looks I spotted. I love the idea that our fashion worlds are evolved enough to appreciate some S&M accessories as everyday wearable accents. It brings a ray of hope to all the creatives who don't really understand boundaries anyway.

Guns and Tattoos: Street Fashion

I am in love with Porcelain Black's look. Was cool to spot her one time [a long time ago] at a Cafe Cosi and take her pictures in her element, just being herself doing normal things like we all do. How insane are those shoes?

By Delaine: Store

Images by By Delaine

Every time I get out of the city for a short weekend getaway, I always end up looking for some local cool stores to hit wherever I go. I have been more than pleasantly surprised most of the times. Here is a store that I highly recommend everyone in NYC who is taking a trip upstate to go check out.

By Delaine is a gorgeous little shop [almost like a fairy tail home] up in Narrowsburg, NY that sells beautiful little things from furniture to scented candles to knitwear to baby clothes to jewelry, art, glassware, etc. And it has a purple door! BTW, all things sold there are made in America to help the American artisans and the economy and part proceeds of some products are donated to Women helping Women organizations. The owner Judy Packer is the funnest mom you will ever come across with a fantastic sense of style and I love her!

So take a trip or a hike up there and check out this beautiful shop! I promise you will love it!

Address: Main Street, Narrowsburg, NY 12764

Bitch Fest: Personal Fashion

 Kaftan: Vintage; Sandals: India

In a universe where we are expected to expect the unexpected, it's difficult to understand why we are  always looking for stability. There are insane things happening in my life through this blog. From attending 20-30 shows at NY fashion week and with every season I get better and better show invites [incl: Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung, Betsey Johnson, Herver Leger, Helmut Lang, etc.], sitting in some front rows, interviewing insane designers like Nickolas Kirkwood, Jen Koa, etc., connecting with super creative people around the world, having some of them recognize my work and like it [!!!], getting random requests in my inbox to write for people/ websites/ magazines especially Vogue India which I have done for almost 2 years, or just emails from photogs who want to shoot for DSM, to designing my first product, to actually being considered to be a part of a reality TV show! Almost all of which has just happened to me and I haven't sought. It's been too crazy to comprehend.

And I love my life so much more right now with all it's ups and downs. Trust me there are a lot of downs. Almost every day I tell someone close to me that every time I feel like things are going great, the same exact day or the day after something horribly wrong will happen and I feel like I have hit rock bottom. And it is never just a small good thing, it's a massive good thing and an equally massive bad thing. So the balance is still there except the amplitude and frequency is higher. See diagram below for explanation. Essentially I am unsure if this frequency is healthy cause it's too much to take so often. So I am just enjoying the excessive roller coaster ride and hoping not to throw up. Teaching myself along the way from my own mistakes and some from others on how not to loose myself, but also to not be afraid to just let go completely without reservations so I can see what I can be. Who knew a stupid blog could teach you so many life lessons.

Spotted this girl at the Pride Parade. Loved the green hair, shaded glasses and the super spike shoes. It was a scene I had to capture. Joy everywhere.

Tell Me a Little About that Girl in The Mirror: Personal Fashion

Images by Alison Wynn

Playsuit: Vintage; Jacket: Suno NYC; Shoes: Irregular Choices

Doing a shoot aimlessly is always fun. Alison and I wandered around for a location for this shoot until we stumbled upon a metal scrap furniture yard, then a pile of garbage [which we shall not get into the details of], then a play ground and then dudes playing basket ball in the play ground. You can not capture the story behind the story most of the times, and that's sad, but it is certainly equally interesting.

Hope most of you are enjoying this summer despite the recurrent heat waves. Please do share some stories about your summer with me. I did like to know just for the heck of knowing what all you guys are up to. Blogging ends up being a bit of a one way conversation and I would love for that to change. I want to know about your life too!

Love you all. Whoever in this *bigger than the galaxies* cyberspace visits this blog.
