New York Fashion week: Quirksome

Quirky is probably the best way to be in current times. It’s a state of mind, way of life or a way of dressing that according to me, allows you to be experimental and cute at the same time. It’s the perfect combination where you are not going to be stared down that much for being a little out there. Try it. It’s fun. How? Get some fun ideas from the designers that did it best at NYFW 2012.

1] Libertine:

Libertine was the highlight of fun at NYFW. Big tweed jackets, skirts and dresses all covered in large sized disc shaped sequin and embroidery. A lot of badass skulls made of sequins on pretty plaid jackets. The finale included all the models dancing away on the runway and having fun, which was such a pleasure to watch. The front row quirks included designer Thom Browne [Below Right] wearing his signature-shrunken suit from his own collection and Michelle Reneau [below left] wearing shorts and a hat covered in smiley faces. [Below images by Prutha Raithatha]

2] Anna Sui

Anna Sui knows how to do fun and flirty in the best possible way. The quirky knit accessories where a cool way to fun up the girly pretty outfits. That blue eyeliner is pure genius. Nothing new but definitely something under used and needs to be more out there. Fall, we know, is a season of grays for most people but for those who want to break away and be the sun of their own lives, colors are the best way to brighten up our days and of the people around you.

Happiness is a state of mind, which can very well be achieved by just dressing up in happy clothes. How can you be blue when you have kitten mittens on that you can use as hand puppets to talk to? It’s as simple as that. Animate your wardrobe and you will have fun just laughing at yourself.

Nailed It: Vogue India

Here is my new blog post for Vogue India.

When fashion people say “she looked so put together from tip to toe”, we mean that she put the effort to coordinate [which should not be confused with the word “match”. They are 2 entirely different words. If someone was completely matchy- matchy they most certainly would not be fashionably coordinated] her entire outfit. This includes her makeup, accessories and nails. Having your nails done has become such a big part of the feminine culture all around the world that we now have nail salons every couple of blocks. It’s a girl’s way of getting her alone time and pampering herself. Lovely well-done nails can totally flip the mood of the day for a lady.

But when you don’t have the time and the money to spend at a fancy nail salon and still want some super creative nail art, what do you do? Gone are the days when we would experiment with 2-3 different nail paints to make patterns ourselves. Welcome the new age of stick on nail art, where no glue is required, no real manicure skills are required either and the nails come out looking professional and last atleast a week without chipping. There are various different types of stick on nail art, but the best and the most easiest to use are the Sally Hansen and Sephora ones.

The Sally Hansen pre designed nail art come in some beautiful and fun patterns like leopard print, flower patterns, plain neon’s, plain glitter, herringbone etc. My personal favorite is the herringbone. The Sephora stick-ons come is some additional patterns, 3d bling included. Check out some of these options below and tell me if you don’t love these 15 min nails that last for a week at $5-$10 approximately.

Street Hats: New Post for Vogue. In

Here is my latest post for Vogue. In

While roaming the streets of NYC to find creative and unique fashion, I came across these amazing people and their even more unique hats. For the usual, you can check the Internet, for the unique you can come here.

Christina Viera’s Hat by House of Flora

Stephone’s hat is Vintage

Colleen’s hat is by Gold Grace

Teresa Peters, a New Zealand actress/ artist wears a Vintage turban hat. Just look at how much more character this vintage piece has in comparison to the turban headbands sold at every other shop.

High Tops: New Post for Vogue. In

http://www.vogue.in/content/high-tops

Check out my new post for Vogue India on  High-Tops for this spring. Have to love the Taylor Tomasi Hill trend set during Fashion Week!!

http://www.vogue.in/content/baroque-wedges

Also here is another post I did the week before on Baroque Wedges and finding a cheaper option for it [not a replica..I would never do that..]. Although I hate to have discovered that my fashion hero icon Iris Apfel just did one of those "inspired" replicas for her new jewelry line for HSN as per Sea of Shoes. I am utterly heart broken to hear of it!! Why oh Why did you do this Iris!! You don't need the money and there isn't anyone more original and creative than you so why copy?? You could have just come up with something so much cooler all by yourself, no?

But seriously people fashion Piracy is totally fucking uncool!!!! Don't do it  or support it!!! Try your hardest to not pick up that Prada look alike dress from Zara or the blatantly copied shoes by Jeffery Campbell!! I know most of us can't afford the originals and that's why we opt for the cheaper options but really we can get other original designs in our budget!! Go for that instead. It's hard sometimes but as anyone who appreciates art of any form or just believes in doing the right thing you MUST NOT support it!! Please!!! None of us are perfect or even aware sometimes of whats copied from whom etc, but we have to try to stop ourselves when we do. Right?
