Genie In a Bottle: Street Fashion

Images by Prutha Raithatha
Those plans are to kill for and I love the proportions of her outfit.

PS: Hurricane Sandy was kind of a crazy event here in NYC, but for all who've been emailing and messaging to check on me, thank you so much for looking out. I am doing well and totally unharmed. Just lost power, internet and phone network in my area so after the storm passed I moved to a friend's place that has all the amenities. All shall be good soon and back to normal. Until then enjoy this DSM post! I love you guys!!!

Chemical Processing: Personal Fashion

Images by Jackie Russo

Dress: Complex Geometry; Leather Leggings: BCBG; Hat: Bloomingdales; Cat Skull Necklace: Custom made by OS accessories; Creepers: Underground UK; Jacket: All Saints

That guy in the military long jacket on his skate board is my favorite part of this shoot. His look was such a contradiction to his activity, it worked perfectly with the DSM philosophy.

I saw this kind of chemical processing of images done by a photog friend Wayne [who shot this for DSM earlier] and wanted to try it one time on DSM. Jackie pulled this rabbit out of her hat and I am beyond excited with the result. Art, I say, is so fulfilling.

Am in love with my custom cat and bird skull necklace from OS accessories. It's heavy but totally worth it. Don't worry they are not real skulls, they are made out of some high quality polyurethane. But yeah this necklace did have all eyes rolling at me during fashion week and I loved it. It's fun for me to know in my head that people think I am a "Bad-ass" by looking at my attire when in fact I am quite the opposite. So much so that I can't even watch a trailer of Paranormal activity in passing or else will have to sleep with my lights on the entire night..lol..

Shhh.... No one needs to know.

Like a Bridge Over Troubled Waters: Personal Fashion

Images by Ben Taylor

Kimono/ Hat: Vintage; Shorts: American Eagle; Creepers: Underground UK

I know this post is probably the most number of pics I have ever posted in one personal post ever, but it was such a cool shoot and there were just so many many cool shots that I could only edit it down to these many. Introducing you to Ben Taylor, an FIT student who is a super talented and creative photographer. This location in Harlem is one of the best I have spotted in NYC so far. What a fun day!!

I love this kimono, which is casual enough for me to wear over my shorts and tee on a regular fall day. The creepers are a fantastic height inducer. Sucks that these custom underground UK creepers took 9 weeks to get to me, while in the mean time copycat Jeffery Campbells were already out in the same exact replicas. They have no shame and it infuriates me!!

Besides that life is good :)

Baskets: Street Fashion

Images by Prutha Raithatha

Ofcourse I think this whole get up along with the bicycle is a perfect scene. Not a perfect picture, but a perfect scene. You can't and shouldn't give or take anything from it.

On an unrelated note, epiphany: human emotions are so uncontrollably chaotic and volatile that trying to understand reactions of people's emotions is a complete waste of time. And you can't blame anyone for what you or even they don't understand. Try dogs instead. More predictable, reliable and loyal. I WANT A DOG!!! NOW!!!

Rain Drops and Trash Cans: Personal Fashion

Images by Upasana Jain

Saree: Bawaree [Mumbai]; Leather Vest: All Saints; Hat: Kelly Christy; Belt worn as bracelet: Zara; Shoes: Ashish for Topshop

This entire shoot had everything going against it. Amongst 8 other things [I counted] the biggest things were RAIN and lack of light. But Upasna made it work and how? BTW, that chair next to the garbage can was totally soaked in the rain when we found it and I sat on it!! ewwhh. But it was a perfect spontaneous setting and I had to use it. My sari, undies plus butt are at the dry cleaners right now for a massive disinfectant cleaning.

Wearing a sari I fell in love with on my last trip to India. I dig the idea of wearing it with a leather studded punk rock-ish vest and leopard wedges. The flattop just fit right for what I wanted to achieve with the look and don’t you agree that this is a much edgier way to wear a conventional sari? Now if only the stupid Mohawk worked [I wanted to style my hair in a Mohawk and for those who follow DSM on facebook and twitter know what a disaster that ended up being..lol]. Maybe when I actually get hired to style a shoot someday I can attempt it again. In the mean while this is way beyond perfection already. Thanks Upasna!!!

PS: You guys should totally follow Upasana’s photography on her facebook page. It’s absolutely worth it.

Street Hats: New Post for Vogue. In

Here is my latest post for Vogue. In

While roaming the streets of NYC to find creative and unique fashion, I came across these amazing people and their even more unique hats. For the usual, you can check the Internet, for the unique you can come here.

Christina Viera’s Hat by House of Flora

Stephone’s hat is Vintage

Colleen’s hat is by Gold Grace

Teresa Peters, a New Zealand actress/ artist wears a Vintage turban hat. Just look at how much more character this vintage piece has in comparison to the turban headbands sold at every other shop.

My favorite flattop by Kelly Christy
