Wooly it up: Personal Fashion

Harem Pants: Zara , Grey Top: Kensie , Necklace: Betsey , Zipper cuff: Ninewest , Shoes: Office

In the event of New York fashion week, we went to check out the works of this super cool millinery called “Yestadt ” at the Wooly downtown. I really liked a lot of their hats.  Great work. Thanks for inviting us Yestadt!

But what to wear to such an event on a super cold day that goes from daytime work to nighttime drinks was the question. This is what I came up with.

I love my harem pants with the asymmetrical zipper from zara. I wear them atleast once a week. They are so comfy and weird that I know not many people will be wearing them; hence perfect for me! This new Kensie sweater top is my new muse. I love the cowl and the 2 sideways square pockets in the front. And the Betsy Johnson necklace is again, so me! I love the tiny airplane and the glasses with rhinestone. I have worn it 4 days in a row and I think im going to wear it again today, lol.

Now for the best part - the shoes. Bought on a trip to London, 2 years ago these Office shoes are my life! If I have to choose between a boy friend and these shoes, I would pick the shoes without batting an eyelid [yes im like that only]. I wish we had done this shoot in day light for you to see how pretty they are, but the first picture probably gives you an idea about what they look like in real life. Every time I want to wear these shoes, I mute the entire rest of the outfit. Just coz I want all eyes there.  I love them. Best investment ever.

Have a happy week y’all!

Roommate 1: Christina Carr

Chris is one of those women, whom after you’ve met once you can never forget! She’s crazy, in the best possible way you can imagine. Apart from being a writer, T.V actress, musician, she also works with NASA… lol… well she does, that’s true, but she works for their radio station. But even so, how many of us can say that our childhood dreams of working for NASA have come true, huh?

Her style I have to say is very eclectic. You never know what character she’s going to be playing tomorrow. But all of them will be edgy with a little punk rock in some way.  I love the hat [which she borrowed from her friend sasha]; her finger rings and the funky glasses that make you go dizzy after a couple of magic mushrooms... lol....Thanks for doing this for me hunny...love ya!!

RIP : Alexander McQueen

It is too tragic and too heartbreaking. I have no words to express how sad I am at the loss of such a great designer :(

When I grow Up, I want to be her

Fun with your wardrobe doesn’t stop at any age or size. I can honestly say that I see myself growing up to be like this lady and I may even have the same hair cut…lol… its true! Love the fun jacket and the pose she gave us. When we stopped her to ask her for a picture, she asked “ what do you want me to do?” and I said "anything you like. Just be yourself”. And she put her foot up and gave us that second shot. Some people are just fun I say.

Only In NYC

Its one thing to go find exciting things to do in a place and another when exciting things just keep happening all around you. NYC is one of the very few awesome places in the world where the wildest things “WILL” happen on a regular basis. Apart from the fact that we spotted this ultra cute kid with his fun outfit, the Stormtroopers from Star Wars in the background just made the entire shoot so cool. S could not even control herself. She kept clicking and clicking and I kept jumping up and down screaming, “that is so cool, that is so cool”.  I’m quite a monkey that way.

Orson’s [the kid] outfit could not have been more apt for the moment. Loved the colors, especially pink, on a guy his age [I’m guessing early teens] was totally appropriate. And the piano belt, how cute is that! He even asked for permission from his mom/ sister/ some older woman he was with if he could do the shoot… I love good kids. So hard to find nowadays. All in all, the pink, the piano and the Stormtroopers all made for a fantastic fantasy episode.

Stella and the Director

There is something about dogs, collar and cool haircuts that always attract my attention. Who hasn’t had the life long quest to find the perfect hair-stylist who knows our hair and gives us cool new hair cuts all the time? I love this Creative Director’s haircut. Is it ok for straight women to have this haircut too? Seriously?

And now lets talk about Stella’s style. Black and white fur coat and an ultra hot red spiked collar. Needless to say I love it. Woof woof!

Monday Morning Blues : PF

Denim Shirt, Lace Shorts, Beanie: Topshop ; Boots: Kenneth Cole , Bag: David and Scotti , Metal Belt: from the streets of Mumbai [9 yrs ago]

Displaying one of my favorite pair of shoes. I bought these canvas and leather boots atleast 4 years ago from Kenneth Cole and I still love them. It’s my life long quest to find things that are classic cuts with unique details that are different enough that they are timeless. This is one such piece. Another one is this David and Scotti canvas and rope purse. Again, bought a long time ago from Century 21 and just like the boots, I have still not seen anyone else having the same purse. I love them both. Great investments.

Besides that, I'm sticking to the Monday morning blues theme. Denim shirts are never going to be out of trend. And my beanie is my latest obsession. I wear it all the time. I wish the shorts fit me better though. Oh well, can't have everything right?

Sweet Annie

Shoes: Nordstrom , Coat: Anthropologie , Purse: Louis Vuitton

Some people you can tell just by looking at their faces that they are sweet people. They have a calm and peace on their face that just shows. Not that I know Annie personally at all, so I am just guessing that she is all of the above. Our brief 5 min encounter did support my interpretation though, just FYI. So that should count a little.

Love her mittens the best. The pop in color was required with that camel colored coat. Notice the cute collar? Also love the fact that she was carrying an LV purse that wasn’t the standard brown one. [I’m sort of sick of that one, FYI. Yes I said It]. Do I really have to say that I LURVVVVV the shoes? I love any kind of leather that looks old/worn out. Most of the times they cost more too.  And the little flower detail on her hat is muted but still adds interest. All in all, it was the really pretty comfort look.

Displaced Lipstick: Paris in NYC

This entire post is about the lips. I love the pin so much, that if I weren’t an immigrant afraid of being deported if I was ever caught for any misconduct, I would have stolen it from her. This French couple [husband not in the picture since he had to carry all of the 20 shopping bags] on their trip to NYC bought a little bit of the Paris romance with them with this pin. You can’t see very well in this picture, but the lips where bright pink and all glittery.  How cute is that? I could see myself wearing it with everything I own. I want really bad!

And since they did not speak English, before we parted ways, I gave them a French translation of our universal desi [Indian] greeting, “Merci. Revenir “  [Thank you. Come again!] …hehehehe… if I don’t crack myself up, its no fun yo!!

“Greased Lightnin', go Greased Lightnin”

Picked right out of the movie GREASE , I am telling you. This kid could have fit in on the set right next to John Travolta and his hair [yup, JT’s hair was so big in the movie, I consider it to be a separate entity in itself]. There is nothing too fancy about his outfit. Folded skinny jeans with some army boots, a white tee and a [Schott NYC ] leather jacket. But his attitude spoke so much louder than his attire. Honestly no one could have walked past this guy and not noticed him. A very modern roadside-rogue look, done with a lot of flare. He was even nibbling on a toothpick when we spotted him. But the smile with the little dimple on his cheek, OMG, can I be a Pink Lady ASAP?

Guess who we spotted?: Lorenzo Martone a.k.a Marc Jacob’s fiancé

The fun part about this rendezvous was that I had no clue who he was when Shraddha and I spotted him across the street in Soho. We saw this hunk, we liked his style, we ran across the street to catch him and asked if he would let us take some of his pictures for a street fashion blog. He very sweetly said, “OK”. While S was clicking his pictures, Tim Murphy [writer with NY Magazine] who was with him asked me, “Do you know who he is?” I very apologetically disclosed, “no”.  Tim “He is Lorenzo Martone, Marc Jacob’s boy friend”.  My day was made. I love the randomness of NYC. Stuff like this happens in very unexpected ways and its so much more fun than a planned event.

check this out ppl
Lorenzo Martone is - in the same clothes we saw and shot him in!

thanks vishnu for the update...!! xoxo

Lace it Up !

Lace Unitard: American Appareal , Shorts: Express , Grey Sweater: Mango , Hat: Kelly Christy, Shoes: Dolce Vita

So I am not the kind of person that follows trends per se. In fact if something is a “fad” or “too in” and I see everyone wearing it, I normally end up despising that trend and will never follow it just coz everyone else [on a mass scale] is following it.  But I caved in to this American Apparel lace unitard. I have seen it on a few people already and tons of blogs and magazines.  The reason I guess I like it enough to actually go buy it was the fact that for a bigger person like me, it’s a little challenging to wear stuff that actually looks sexy.  We normally cant expose too much of our body parts just coz the flab is not too flattering. This was my attempt at a little muted, modern sexy look for the bigger built. What do you think? Does it work? I attempted another version with the bodysuit which I will post next week.

FYI, I have always been in love with headpieces. Especially the abstract like this Kelly Christy piece I borrowed from my roommate Chris. I am in love with it! I am so going to try to get a shoot with Kelly Christy and her works if she will have me.  And then I may decide to invest in some of her fab works depending on bank balance. Until then sweet dreams :)

In the HOOD!!

Spotted this girl arm in arm with her boy friend at Union Square, NYC. Love her hoodie jacket. We all normally do own hoodies but seldom do we look good with the hoodies on.  This brown jacket was beautiful with the fit, the cut and I like the way she belted it for a waist. I have to give her props for walking around with her hoodie on just for style. It wasn’t cold enough for her to actually need it. And I like the little green accents too.

FYI, I normally do not like brown as a color too much [and I HATE Maroon]. I prefer grays. But this jacket I could totally see myself wearing with some super short navy and white “jail band stripe” shorts [see the picture below] and some funky wedged boots. Everything was great except now I want to know where she got her cute boyfriend from? I wantttttt…. Le sigh!!

Radio mY Ass!!

Images by Shraddha Borawake

Ok, so im sorry for the non-“PG 13 rated “ blog title, but its so perfect for the picture! How cute is that transistor purse on this girl’s behind? I love accessories [or anything for that matter] that have a SOH [Sense of humor] to it. I have one such purse myself, but will post pics of it at a later date. BTW, I can’t wait for Apple to come out with Ipod shaped purses with actual music storing capabilities. So when u walk around with it, u can just plug in your headphones to the purse for music, or then just turn the knobs around to use it as a mobile- tensile-boom box, which is actually a purse!!...Ok I’ll stop now, I promise! J

PS: If anyone gets my ipod purse idea and thinks its awesome, pls holla at me in the comments section!!..just wannna spot like minded geniuses in the crowd ;-)
