Gudiya Rani: Mumbai Street Fashion

Images by Prutha Raithatha
I was in India for Diwali this year. Diwali is like X’mas for us Hindus. It’s a festival of lights and spans over 5 days with lots of food and family and fireworks and everyone dresses up in their best clothes of the year and rejoice.  It truly is a lovely time to be with family and friends.

I was at my Dad’s office for a prayer service on Diwali Day. In the lobby of his office building I found this beautiful beautiful little girl. I didn’t even stop to think for a second and just started shooting her. She was so adorable in her best outfit all dressed for the festival of Diwali. Notice the little string of diamonds [probably from her mom’s broken necklace or earrings] pined to her hair with 2 BIG bobby pins..hehe… I love ittt soo soo much. It’s the spirit of dressing up to look your best even when you don’t have enough. She was the daughter of the building‘s watchman.

Oh and while I was shooting her, her elder brother came into my frame and propped her younger brother next to her. He then turned to me and said, “ Madam, can you please take both their pictures together? Thank you”…hehe. So I did. Poor kid was so stunned he had no idea what to do. Hehe…look at his cute and super confused face!! Don’t you just want to eat him up….soooooo freaking adorable!!!
