Off Work: Street Fashion

One of my favorite Models and Makeup through NYFW SS2012. The purple lip with the darker shade of purple inside made the lips look like they do when you have red wine except this was in purple. Prabal did super well.

Am a Secret Carnival Worker: Personal Fashion

Images by Jade Anderson

Harem Shorts: Alexander Wang; Shirt: Cotton World; Shoes: Underground UK; Sunglasses: Fendi; Chandelier Necklace: Karmic Kabira by Vandana Dewan [from Attic Mumbai]; Leather Cuff: Mango

Each piece is this entire outfit of mine has a story. I must tell.

Creepers: I paid more for the shipping of these shoes than I did for the shoes themselves. It is because I ordered UK size 7 instead of US size 7 and had to pay for shipping twice to get the right size.

Shorts: Found my dream shorts at the A. Wang sample sale. Went on the last day for the sale and didn't expect to find much but I did. Literally the only bottoms in my size in the whole sale but nontheless totally my style and I didn't like anything else.

Necklace: Saw it online on the Attic store's facebook page. Asked my friend Shweta who is one of the owners of the store to send me multiple images of it before I could confirm that it really was a huge size necklace. Asked my sister to pick it up for me in Mumbai and was finally sent to me via a bff visiting me from Mumbai. Yes, I want, what I want, what I want!

Fendi SS 2011 Sunglasses: I had been dying over these Fendi sunglasses ever since I saw the pics of the SS 2011 show. After calling all the Fendi stores I realized that unless I was someone insanely important I was not going to find them. So I put myself on the wait list at Fendi and waited and waited and waited. Finally 2 weeks ago they called. And how I made it to NYC from NJ after work and reached the store before 7pm is an entire obstacle race narration altogether. The point is, it was a tough day but I finally made it to the store 3 mins before closing and got my glasses!!! I can totally tell you guys in advance that you are going to get sick of seeing these babies on me for a longgggg longggg time in the future.

But it's all worth it in the name of FASHION!!

BTW, for updated on my adventures during NYFW starting on Wednesday, follow DSM on Twitter

PS: I love this shoot. Wanted to experiment with lines and geometric composition with existing surrounding elements. I think we achieved it quite nicely. Yes?

ShotGun [Slogan] Murugan

I normally never do this [write about other blogs on my blog], but I am obsessed with this one person’s talent of photography and documentation. His name is Gopal M S [or Slogan Murugan…don’t ask reasons for 2 names. It’s Indian hence consider it foreign and move on]. He has 3 blogs

This one is one my favorite because it’s all about Mumbai [where I am from] in its un-glorified true form. There are so many things M S documents on his blog about Mumbai that even I as a person who grew up there and spent 22 yrs of life in, finds fascinating.

This blog is essentially the same but about his travels to different parts of India and not restricted to Mumbai

I think this one is mostly about Bangalore.

Anywho, Moving on, I love these 2 dappar Kutch guys he spotted in Kutch, Gujarat that totally speak fashion to me in the rawest hence highest form. I really wish India / Indians do not give up their traditional fashions ever. It’s too unique, beautiful and original to be lost.

DUDE 1: Look at the earrings, his necklace, the details on his shirt, jacket and his jhoti/ harem pants. M S could have captured this guy better.

DUDE 2: Consider the crisp look of this auto rickshaw driver's Jacket and his layering. Love the turban although a lot of traditional Indian men wear it. And then you see the little western-ness creeping into the culture with those Sketchers type looking shoes. Makes me sad.

Fall Details to Look Out For

Love the metal ball bag

Prabal Gurung gloves

Am loving these knits mix.

The studded head band

Dying over this ring I spotted on someone in line with me at the Y3 show. He found it somewhere in Paris.

For a cool photographer

I love the studded Teddy so much along side the bigger one. Even though its not a real accessory it still could be.

Love that spiral Ring

Love those pants and that bag by Binetti

Light Up My Life: Personal Fashion

Images by NURBS

Dress: Complex Geometry; Shoes: Irregular Choices; Necklace: Indian Temple Jewelry

This past week has been crazy!! Reconnecting with tons of people from my old life and some new. Life is one crazy roller coster and I love it!! The necklace I am wearing is one of my favorites and always gets  a lot of attention. One of my closest friends gave it to me as a present. She has incredible taste for sure and I miss her like crazy!! The last time I wore it, I went to the A.Wang sample sale in NYC and one of the girls at the register said she loved it and that I should be very careful cause it might go missing before I walked out of the store. Needless to say I didn't find her to be funny.

Tried new things with light design in the pictures. Can you guys please tell NURBS how cool he is for trying this for the first time? He NEVER gives himself enough credit for ANYTHING. And I am going crazy trying to make him realize how talented he is!! You won't find anyone with a bigger and better heart than NURBS. He's a great guy. God bless him. Just wish he knew how good he is.

DSM's on Twitter and Facebook if you'd like to keep in touch.

Mamma Says: Street Fashion

Jumpsuit: Ebay

Kara's wardrobe is an amazing color explosion as you can see in the 4th pic behind her. I love anyone who has so much color in their closet. It's fun. Kara's mom bought her this jumpsuit which she loves and I think it's fantastic too. Love the hair btw. And her beautiful cat!!

Pigments: Personal Fashion

Images by Upasana Jain

Tunic: Custo Barcelona; Jacket: Vintage; Shoes: Underground UK

This velvet tunic from Custo Barcelona is so good to touch. But there is one thing I find with all Custo clothing is that their fit is always drastically off. This tunic is soo short I cannot wear it as a dress or with tights [cause it just has funny proportions]. But I still love the psychedelic print, colors and the fact that the back of the dress is completely different from the front.

The jacket is going to be my fall/ spring staple. I love it!! Found it at a vintage store in Beacon.

Besides that, for people who follow DSM on Facebook and Twitter know about the Shel Silverstein  [tribute] concert I went to on Saturday at Central Park. I really just have to say that it was fantastic. He wrote my favorite children’s book, “The Giving Tree” and I didn’t even know till I went to the concert and one of the artist recited the book with some cool background music. His work is great. All his songs, poetry, artwork is funny with a little darkness and that’s so me that I really think I need to find more of his books and music to listen to. You should too.

PS: I scared the living day lights out of a kid with my makeup at Kathie Roll after the shoot. I had to calm him down by telling him that I was just dressed up to go for a Halloween type Super Woman party.   I am not even kidding.
