Sunday Dogday

Hellooooo Mister!! We met this fine young gentleman/dog in Brooklyn, dressed sharp in his Sunday afternoon stroll attire, looking good enough to eat!! I don’t mind being single for the rest of my life if only I could have him forever!!... I <3 doggies!!

OMG that reminds me, I have to feed Chuck!!!!!!!! .... Damn it!! 

P S: Chuck is the name of my plant that my ex-colleagues from work gave me to "look after" when I kept pestering them about getting a dog. Since they think I am super irresponsible and have an over active social life, they thought starting with a plant for practice was a better idea. This is my fourth attempt at keeping Chuck alive L. But it’s not my fault. Plants don’t move or bark, how the hell am I supposed to remember they are alive!!

Reverend H.K.

The best part about this fashion blog for both S and I are the variety of people we meet. We have met so many people with such different backgrounds that we some how feel like we are actually getting to know NYC on a whole new level.

One such encounter was with Rev. H.K in Brooklyn on a Sunday morning. Rev. H.K. is a bass guitarist and a backup vocalist for a Death Metal band called “The Only”. When we first spotted him, I have to be honest I was a little intimidated by him. Dressed in all black, smoking a joint and with more than a few non-white teeth, I didn’t know if he was approachable. But I really liked his boots so I decided to just go for it.

Once we started to talk to him, it turned out that he was actually super sweet and was all too happy to pose for us. He kept making jokes about how he became a Reverend online and does weddings on the side for additional income. And when he started posing, he was having so much fun. It was a total transformation from his first impression. I love NYC for its people!!

Classic Vanity

So since we are still in the multiple-watches-as-an-accessory mood from my PF post 2 days ago…how about we continue with the theme. Check out Caroline Grosso’s cool multiple wrist watches and bracelet as an accessory. In the age of facebook and twitter I think 2 watches is the least anyone would need to keep track of their world wide web connections, right? And after the function of keeping you updated on what time your friend Tom in Thiland will wake up is served by the second watch, It does add a little extra especial interest to the look too.

As a fashion assistant at Vanity Fair Magazine, Caroline ofcourse had amazing taste. I like the clean lines of her entire outfit. The coat, the skinny jeans, the shoes and even her purse, were all clean lines. Sometimes classics are all you need to make a well-composed outfit.

After we were done shooting her, we spent almost 15 more mins with her just chatting away. I asked her where she was from originally and she responded, "This very exotic place called New Jersey"...lol...She now lives in my neighborhood in Manhattan. From Vanity Fair to Jersey Shore, we stood outside is the blistering cold, just being girls yapping away about stupid things. Was so much fun!!

StePHONE …. Tring tring!

I have been waiting to find the right time to post these amazing pictures. Stephone’s style was something of the nature of street couture, if I had to put it in words. As and when we were clicking his pictures, we kept discovering layers and layers of DIY collars that he had made himself. So interesting that I begged him to take them off one by one to show us the details on an ultra cold night. And he very happily obliged us. That was really sweet of him.

Brilliant styling and drama is something only a few can carry out in grace. If you are not one of them naturally, it’s hard to fake it. Stephone I can tell was born with it. His upturned hat, with the big volume collar detail on his sweater, the fur and the unisex wedged shoes he was wearing, is not something many guys can carry off. And that’s why he’s unique and brilliant.

New York going on London: Personal Fashion

Is there anyone out there who doesn’t already know that I love the sun!! I am not lying when I say that, if you want to make me happy instantly at any point in life, just bring the sun out [or you could give me a million dollars…both are equally effective]. This past weekend was our first springy weather weekend in NYC and I was all ready for it. I picked out this very cute, light and airy zara dress with lace detail around the neck for the day. Paired with grey stockings and used red as an accent.

I found this really cool, vintage looking pearl necklace at topshop, which has become one of my favorite accessories. It’s got 2 watches on it. One set to NY time and the other set to London time. How cute is that? The second /darker necklace is just for added effect. It’s like a million years old, and every time I wear it, some new part of the necklace disappears. So much for quality, I tell you.

And the shoes!! My latest pair from zara. I love them. They are super tall and super comfy. I wore them with red short short ankle socks, so that you couldn't really see them from the top. They covered my toes in the cold and added that red color for additional interest. Most of my friends just thought the red was part of the shoe and couldn't tell that I was actually wearing socks, which was the point. You like? ;-)

I can’t really end this post without talking about the brilliant architecture we used as our backdrop for this shoot. 40 Bond Street is a high-end condominium designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron with a street-level gate of cast aluminum inspired by graffiti. All those squiggly lines behind me in the pictures are that graffiti gate. To the power of art!!

Color Me Bad!

When I was younger I remember going to watch the movie “Run Lola Run” and being totally and completely fascinated by Franka Potente’s bright red hair. I tried really hard, almost like clockwork every morning, to convince my mom to let me have red hair and of course she refused every single time. So I got the next best color, burgundy! And then I got blond and then I got dark brown and then I got black and then blond again and then I got broke… by the “broke” part I mean I started earning my own money and did not have pappa’s [dad’s] money to spend on hair salon’s every couple of months. So now the L’oreal DYI hair color has to do the trick… where is my father when I need him!!! [j/k]

So we spotted this ultra cute chick on the street. Her hard-edged Goth look combined with such bright colored highlights and eye shadow, all just worked for me.  Look at all the colors in her hair. She has yellow, red, purple, blue and ofcourse black, all on one head and they all work soo well together. I even asked her if she would do my hair, but she lives in philly hence not…  I must have such highlights some day. I MUST!! [Noone, I repeat, NO ONE tell my mom... capeesh?]

Tank Tie

So remember the JUMP shoes I posted right before Valentine’s Day?..well in that JUMP store is where we met Dominic. First I couldn’t take my eyes off of the shoes, so I went into the store to find out how much they were for [$900 FYI]…and once I realized that my dreams of having those shoes were crushed by the heavy price tag, I moved on to observing other things around me. And there he was, super tall, super chic Dominic.

I loved his style instantly. The beautiful neckpiece he was wearing was the first thing I noticed and then his fab shoes. I know some of you may not agree, but I love his boots with the strap on one… and the fact that they have different colored laces. And just by looking at him you can tell he is totally into fashion with the gold watch, multiple rings and 3 painted nails on each hand [fyi, im gonna try that sometime … I kinda like the idea of having only a few finger nails painted instead of all 10. I know it’s not something new, but I never thought of actually implementing it on myself up until now… maybe it’ll be cool…we’ll see J]

Dominic is an aspiring Men’s ware designer, who is soon going to have his own line named “Dominic Louis” launched. The suede tie on the back of his tank top is something he did just the night before, he said, for fun. Brilliant I say. Little DYI and it adds so much character to a simple outfit. We wish you much luck in your new adventures Dominic!!

Adios A-Meko

A little background on the day these pictures were taken. It was on the same day we had shot Vivian Wu from the “Night Rider” post I put up a couple of days ago. It was the coldest day of this winter. S and I were trying not to shake hands with anyone cause ours where not hygienic anymore [we had no other way to keep our noses from running yo!! Don’t judge, you know you do it too!!... j/k]. So since it was sooooooo effing cold, we were jumping from one store to another just so that we could stay indoors for a bit. When we saw someone interesting pass by outside on the street we would run out to stop him or her. But then we also started to scope out people who were shopping inside. However, you can’t click pictures inside a store, so we had to beg the people we spotted to come out in the teeth chattering cold and pose for us. And Meko did, like a champ.  Thanks soo much honey, you were awesome.

Now about her look, I fell in love with her Steven Allen  coat and her overall styling. The mittens and the fur hat of the same color and the vintage purse, all were such cool pieces individually and put together. She even had a big gold brooch on her jacket [covered by her hair in these pics] that was a really nice touch to make her winter jacket a little dressier. Meko is an intern at a fine arts company. Men at NY Fashion Week - part 2

So since we havent posted anything fashion related today, I am puting up some of the left over NY Fashion Week pictures. Will have the regular people post tomorrow. Until then enjoy the men!!

The Fashionista and Photographer in their red ecstasy!!

Let me say that I am a big fan of Prutha's enthusiam of fashionable explorations, but this week, I was floored by this amazing photograph that she took of me. As you can see in her personal fashion post, this girl has no qualms of plonking in the snow, having a little fun, and strutting her extremely cold toes in 12 inch deep snow, I felt inspired and did the same on this abandoned squash court (except I was snug in my rain boots). She is now quickly learning the tricks of MY trade, and this weekend, we switched rolls for a hot minute. She photographed me as I threw around balls of snow...gotta have fun while working man! The two images also telling how insyc we are becoming. The red scarves and the uber excited attitudes!

Bellow the Willow: Personal Fashion

       I could probably finish off writing about my outfit on this post in one sentence. I love Black and white graphic patterns clubbed with red as an accent. Done!!

      So why the 100 pictures for this post? Well the point is that, as and when S and I progress in this adventure for this blog, we are learning different things about each other and our separate arts [her photography and my fashion]. As you all already know by now that she is a fabulous photographer, this post is more for her art of photography than for the fashion. Fashion is very straightforward in this one. You take one look at it and you get it. It’s comfortable, clean and bold enough to be a statement. You have to wear such an outfit/ makeup with a lot of confidence or you WILL totally screw it up and it WILL NOT work. But the photography is something else. Its S’s way of telling a story through her pictures. It is her way of creating a dream from right in the middle of the busiest city in the whole wide world.  I will let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

      God bless the fact that we both, in the end, share the same kind of eye for art…and we totally get each other’s visions and respect it. Cause to be honest, we are both perfectionists and I know I wouldn’t be happy with someone less perfect than her as my photographer. I love you hunny… you are the best and these pictures are just fabulous!! [I hope Mariam’s not reading this! Well you both are the best in my books…J]
